Although it is linked to the wider Trois Vallées area, Val Thorens is surrounded by slopes where you will be hard pushed to exhaust the skiing possibilities. The terrain in the Belleville Valley which includes Val Thorens, Les Menuires and St Martin de Belleville is magnificent. At 2300 metres Val Thorens is the highest ski resort in Europe which is why we operate here at the end of the season and the very beginning.
Despite being purpose built, Val Thorens is not the 1960's concrete eyesore that you might expect. It has developed sympathetically to its surroundings and has benefitted from plenty of investment during the last 10 years. The drab concrete monoliths that were thrown up during the 60's are being replaced by more attractive wooden chalets and with 40 million euros earmarked for the resort before 2010 there is going to be plenty of improvement taking place in the near future.
There also seems to be something about the height of Val Thorens that gives the nightlife a somewhat frenzied air as well: expect to rub shoulders with party-happy Scandinavians in addition to the French and English. Val Thorens has a plenty of French, Irish, English and Dutch bars to choose from with Le Saloon and the Frog and Roastbeef being two of the liveliest. In Les Menuires head to the Croisette for bars and nightlife.
